The new avatars of Motorola’s Moto G and Moto X is finally launched. Here are the things that have changed and somethings that have not.

After months of rumor, the new avatars of Motorola’s Moto G and Moto X is finally launched. Motorola’s Indian online partner flipkart.com previously slashed the price of Moto G indicating the release of the Moto G 2nd Gen. The Moto G 2nd Gen is available now available in India on flipkart. The Moto X 2nd Gen is expected by the end of this month.

What’s New & What’s Changed in the New Moto G 2nd Gen

Display – The Moto G 2nd Gen has a larger display of 5″ HD as compared to its original 4.5″.

New Moto G - Dual Sim Intelligent Calling

Moto G learns your calling patterns to determine the best SIM for an outgoing call.

Processor & RAM – The Moto G 2nd Gen is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1.2GHz quad-core CPU as the original Moto G and also the 1GB of RAM remains the same.

Storage – One of the biggest upgrades is the addition of Micro-SD Card slot (upto 32GB) on the Moto G 2nd Gen. The lack of a Micro-SD Card slot on the original Moto G was the biggest fault and many complained about it.

Camera – Both the Front and the rear camera is upgraded to 8-megapixel autofocus with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera from its original 5-megapixel and 1.3-megapixel ones. According to NDTV Gadgets, the camera shot decent pictures with no shutter lag.

New Moto G - Capture in HD

Never miss a minute. Moto G’s built-in digital TV tuner and app let you watch your favourite TV programmes on the go. You can also record a program while watching it, or schedule a recording to be viewed later.

No 4G: The lack of 4G connectivity on the original Moto G was a disappointment for some and the same continues on the New Mogo. This may be disappointing for people using 4G Network.

The Moto G 2nd Gen is indeed an “Exceptional Phone” at an “Exceptional Price”.  Read my previous post on Moto G for more info.

Moto G 2nd Gen in India is available exclusively on Flipkart, Motorola’s marketing partner in India. You can buy the phone from the below link.

What’s New & What’s Changed in the New Moto X 2nd Gen

As mentioned in my previous Moto X Review, this smartphone offers some exceptional features like Active Display (now know as Moto Display), Touchless Control and Moto Connect. Here are some of the changes/upgrades you will see on the New Moto X.

New Moto X - Gesture Response

Use your voice to post to Facebook, pause a video on YouTube, or send a message with WhatsApp.

Display – The most notable difference is the larger screen size. The Moto X 2nd Gen comes with a 5.2″ Screen with full HD resolution protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3(for Scratch Resistance) like its predecessor. This is a great news for ebook readers and people who love larger display.

Processor – The Moto X 2nd Gen is powered by 2.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor which is faster and more advanced than the 1.7GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor on the previous Moto X.

Storage – Like the previous Moto X, the Moto X 2nd Gen does not have an external SD Card slot. The New Moto X comes in two variants – 16GB and 32GB however it is not announced whether both the variants will be available in India. Previously the Moto X 32GB variant was not released/available in India.

Gesture Control on Moto X 2nd Gen

A simple wave of your hand silences calls or snoozes alarms on your New Moto X 2nd Gen.
And even when your phone is asleep, it displays notifications and updates without disrupting what you’re doing.

2nd Gen

Camera – The 10-Megapixel camera on Moto X has been upgraded to 13-Megapixel on the Moto X 2nd Gen. The LED flash on the camera has been transformed into a ring shaped surrounding the camera lens.

According to NDTV Gadgets the picture quality is better on the Moto X 2nd Gen and it supports 4K Video Recording.

Touchless Control – the voice prompt on the Moto X 2nd Gen can be changed to your liking if you don’t like the “OK, Google Now” launch phrase.

Now one can even set their own voice commands on the new Moto X 2nd Gen, something I’ve been waiting for.

Design – The front remains more or less the same with no branding but the back has got a sporty look on the New Moto X 2nd Gen.

The RAM, other features and specifications remain the same. Read my full review of Moto X for more info.
